Five Rising Star Male Athletes To Watch This Season

We take a look at some freshmen and sophomores who are already starting to shine in the state of Louisiana. All five of these athletes are already excelling in their given track and field disciplines.

Joshua Anding - Ruston

Ruston's Joshua Anding put on a show at the Hoss Garrett Relays on March 26th. The freshman ran 49.51 seconds in the 400m dash for a new personal best. That time currently ranks 15th in the country for the class of 2023. 

Anding has two times sub-50-seconds for the 400m on the season as he also ran 49.75 seconds at the C.E. Byrd YELLOW JACKET RELAYS on March 13th. 

In his first-ever out-of-state appearance facing off against juniors and seniors at the Mobile Challenge of Champions (Invite), Anding finished sixth in the finals.

His PR, of 49.51 in the 400m is the third fastest in the state of Lousiana. Anding is not only a 400m athlete but also an 800m runner. The sophomores 2:05.91 PR ranks just outside of the top 50 in the state and inside the top 10 amongst freshmen and seniors.

Michael Vocke - Jesuit

According to the MileSplit database Michael Vocke is on pace to have one of the best freshmen distance campaigns in Louisiana history. He's already run the fastest freshmen 3200m in state history with his 9:28.30 from the Catholic High Tip-Off Meet. 

In the 1600m, Vocke sits only behind 2017 St. Paul's School graduate Eric Coston on the all-time state freshmen rankings. Coston ran a 4:16 in the 1600m as a freshman at the LHSAA State Championships while so far Vocke has a PR of 4:19.85. 

Overall regardless of grade, the freshmen holds the third-fastest 1600m and fastest overall 3200m time in the state. He's also run a full mile which he currently holds the fastest time in the state for with his 4:21.37 from the Mobile Challenge of Champions (Invite).

Nationally for the class of 2024 his 1600m time ranks first and his 3200m ranks second.


Kaleb Goodly - Barbe

When it comes to the jumps Kaleb Goodly does it all.

The Barbe High School freshmen holds an all-conditions PR in the long jump of 19 feet 8.5 inches, an all-conditions PR in the triple jump of 42-9.5 inches, and a PR in the high jump of 6-2 inches.

His triple jump mark leads the state for the freshmen class and ranks 20th amongst all grades. Nationally, in the triple jump, he ranks 18th amongst the class of 2024. 

His long jump and high jump PR's rank 12th and 1st respectively amongst other freshmen in the state. He's won the high jump at six different meets in 2021 and placed 2nd and 4th at the other two.



Hayden Christman - Tioga

Hayden Christman is one of the top underclassmen combined throwers in the state. He is the top discus thrower in the class of 2023 and is tied for 6th in the shot put for the class of 2023.


His class-leading discus mark of 139 feet 8 inches came at the Tioga Reservation Relays. That same meet is also where he threw his shot put PR of 
44-2.

Watch for him to take a run at the state meet as he was able to make it indoors for the shot put. He finished 12th overall in the boys D1 shot put at the LHSAA Indoor State Championships with a throw of 41-5. 


Torey Lambert - Brother Martin

Brother Martin sophomore Torey Lambert is one of the top underclassmen hurdlers in the state of Louisiana. He is the second-fastest underclassmen in both the 300mH and the 110mH. Lambert holds times of 14.92 for the 110mH and 40.47 for the 300mH. 

Lambert's all-conditions 14.92 in the 110mH ranks 8th in the state amongst all classes while his 40.47 ranks 11th. So far he has finished either first or second in all but one of his races this season.
