It's the final boys' poll of the year. The MileSplit Louisiana community will decide this week who will be the 2026 MileSplit LA Boys' Athlete Of The Year. Congratulations to all of the finalists who made it to the ballot by winning a MileSplit LA Boys' Performer Of The Week poll during the season. This poll will end on Saturday, May 23rd at 9pm.
Henry Mensman (Catholic)--The senior was the District 4-5A champion and the Region 2-5A champion before finishing third at the LHSAA State Outdoor Championships. He also won the LHSCA Meet of Champions in the 200 meters with a time of . While he did not run the 200 meters often, he did run a wind-aided 20.90 at the Texas A&M Bluebonnet Relays in week one. That time was No. 2 time in Louisiana.
Augustin Juneau (Catholic)-- Juneau, a sophomore, found himself on the MileSplit LA Boys' Performer Of The Week poll during week two when he ran a 9:13.27 in the 3200 at the Bronco Relays. He would go on to be the District 4-5A champion (9:24.07) and the Region 2-5A champion (9:20.89). He finished third at the LHSAA State Outdoor Championships with a 9:14.17 on a soggy Bernie Moore Stadium track.
William Decuir (Catholic)--Decuir, a junior, won a state championship in the 800 meters at the LHSAA State Outdoor Championships. It's his second state title. His first came in 2025 in an epic upset over Jesuit's Brady Mullen at the 2025 state meet. There is no place like home for Decuir, who ran his fastest 800 meter time of season at the Pete Boudreaux Invitational in March. It was only fitting that after winning his state championship, Decuir made his way across the track to shake hands with the legendary, Louisiana Sports and National Federation of High Schools coach, who was working the state meet with the LSU Track and Field Officials Association.
Trey Detillier (Central Lafourche)-- Detillier, a junior, finished the season ranked No. 18 in Louisiana in the 1600 meters. His season best of 4:22.23 came at the Pete Boudreaux Invitational in March. He was a member of the Central Lafourche 4x800 team which finished as the runner-up to Catholic at the LHSAA State Outdoor Championships with a time of 7:57.
Patrick Gales (Brusly)--Ran a wind aided 10.65 at the Texas Relays in the prelims and then finished third in the finals with a 10.78. Unfortunately, that would be his final meet of the 2026 season.
Al Johnson (Hahnville)- Johnson ran a 1:54.32 for a third place finish in the District 8-5A Championships. That was his season best time in that event. He also had a season best of 49.15 in the 400 meters at the Derbigny Relays in late March.
Tayven Carter (Delta Charter)-- Carter triple jumped 49 feet twice during the 2026 season. No other triple jumper in Louisiana passed the 48 foot barrier. Carter's season best came at the Battle of 318 where he jumped 49-3. In his final meet of the season--the LHSAA State Outdoor Championships--he did it again with a mark of 49-0.25. Carter was undefeated in both the triple jump and long jump this season. His season best came at the Franklin Parish High School Invitational where he jumped 23-5. At the state outdoor meet, he had a mark of 23-2.5.
Jason Friels (Carroll)--The senior had a great season in the hurdles. He was the District 1-3A and Region 1-3A champion in both the 110 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. His season best in the 110 meter hurdles came at the Region 1-3A Meet where he ran a 15.24. He finished fifth the following week at the LHSAA State Outdoor Championships. He was undefeated in the 300 hurdles before finishing fifth at the state meet. His season best of 41.21 came at the Wildcat Relays in March.
Kingston Culpepper (Cedar Creek)--One of the rising stars in sprinting in Louisiana, Culpepper finished second at the Nike Indoor Nationals in the 60 meters with a time of 7.17. He was the District 1-1A and Region 1-1A champion in the 100 meters. He ran under 11 seconds four times during the 2026 season. The final times was the LHSAA State Outdoor Championships where he ran a 10.95 to finish fourth.
Wynn Turner (Episcopal)--Turner had a day at the LHSAA Class 2A State Outdoor Championships. He won the 110 meter hurdles with a 14.59. He returned in the 300 meters hurdles where he finished second with a time of 38.78. Both times are personal records for Turner, who helped his claim the Class 2A state championship.
