MONROE, La. – Sophomore Moses Chelimo claimed the men’s race at the ULM cross country team competed at home in the ULM Warhawk Cross Country Festival at Selman Field. Moses crossed the line in a time of 27:55.3. Freshman Madeleine Robertson was the highest-finishing ULM competitor in the women’s race, finishing 11th with a time of 22:22.7.
In addition to Chelimo, three other Warhawk men finished in the top 11. Junior Jorel Torres claimed seventh-place in 29:47.1 while sophomore Kendall Robbins and sophomore Britt Koestler clocked in back-to-back at 10th and 11th in 29:58.7 and 30:02.9, respectively. Also competing for ULM, sophomore Hunter Russell took 18th in a time of 30:37.0 and redshirt freshman Alex Wallace crossed the line in 31st spot in 32:53.3.
Using a dual-meet scoring format, ULM finished the day with a 2-1 record bettering Grambling State, 20-35, and Northwestern State, 20-38, while narrowly falling to Arkansas State, 27-28. Arkansas State finished the day with the best overall record, finishing a perfect 3-0.
On the women’s side, freshman Tyler Blacklock and sophomore Kelsie Coats joined Robertson in claiming top-15 finishes. Blacklock clocked in with a time of 22:40.6 to finish 14th and Coats was close behind in 15th with a finish of 22:47.1. ULM’s other two competitors also finished inside the top-25, junior Lexi Krigbaum claimed 20th in a time of 23:20.3 and sophomore Denise Myers crossed the line in 23:43.6 for a 22nd place finish.
As a team, the Warhawk women finished the day with a 2-1 record, claiming victories over Grambling State, 22-33, and Northwestern State, 26-29. ULM’s lone defeat came to Arkansas State, 15-44. Arkansas State had the best record of the meet, finishing 3-0.
The Warhawks will return to action in two weeks as the women will compete at the North Texas Invitational in Denton, Texas on Friday, Oct. 2, while the men will be in action at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., on Saturday, Oct. 3.
