ULM Track and Field Wraps up Regular Season at NSU NCAA Regional Qualifying Meet

NATCHITOCHES, La. – The ULM track and field team had several individuals place high, including a first place finish by Bola Shoyebi in the 200-meter dash, but couldn’t get the necessary marks to qualify for the regional meet at the NSU NCAA Regional Qualifying Meet at Walter P. Ledet Track Complex in Natchitoches, La., on Saturday afternoon.

 

Shoyebi’s top mark in the 200 was 24.88 seconds. She also finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.18 seconds.

 

Also competing on the women’s side, Sadrina Shaw finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.20 seconds. Jerrica Thomas finished fourth in both the long jump and triple jump with a distance of 5.78 meters and 11.65 meters, respectively.

 

On the men’s side, Brandon Smithers finished second in the long jump with a leap of 7.08 meters and Josh Howard finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 14.96 meters. Smithers finished sixth in the triple jump after leaping 14.01 meters.

 

Jarvis Mansfield finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.40 seconds. Julian Reddy finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.72 seconds. Trevor Hall finished third in the javelin with a toss of 38.0 meters.

 

“We took a group down and tried to get a few qualified,” head coach J.D. Malone said. “It was really windy and we had a few equipment issues that unfortunately prevented that from happening. It was just one of those days for us.”

 

ULM’s nine regional qualifiers will return to action on May 29 at the NCAA Mideast Regional Meet in Louisville, Ky
