LAFAYETTE – Ben Chretien unleased one of the top javelin throws in McNeese State history while teammates Jordan Neil, Jacob Domingue and DeAnn Washington also produced first place efforts on Saturday during the running of the UL-Lafayette’s Louisiana Classic track and field meet.
A sophomore from Elton, Chretien increased his personal best by almost 18 feet as he won the javelin with a toss of 221-9. That ranks among the top 10 in school history.
Neil returned to action by winning the 1500 meter run with a 3:58.42 clocking while Domingue took the shot put at 49-11 3/4.
Washington was a double event winner as she won the shot put at 45-7 and the discus at 139-09. She also placed sixth in the hammer with a throw of 152-1. All three performances were career bests for her.
Other top five efforts for the Cowboys and the Cowgirls in the meet that was attended by all of the top athletes in the state were a fourth by Amy Guinn in the 1500 meters (4:47.23), a fifth place by Amber Kelly in the shot put (38-11 1/2), a fourth by Johnathan Koenck in the 1500 meters at 4:01.27, a third by Jared Crafton in the shot put (48-10) and a fourth by Domingue in the discus (155-6).
Also scoring points for McNeese in the meet were: Crafton with a sixth in the hammer (160-5), Michael Dyer with an eighth in the 800 meters (1:57.70), Karl Stewart with a sixth place in the 400 hurdles (57.52), Amanda Lejeune with a sixth place in the javelin (129-9), Andre Salmon with an eighth in the 100 meters (10.82), Charles Jackson with a seventh place in the 200 meters (21.77), Brittney Kleckley with an eighth in the pole vault at 10-2 and Guinn with an eighth in the 800 meters at 2:25.18.
