Kent Qualifies for NCAA Regionals

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Kyle Kent qualified for the NCAA Regionals with his throw of 62.10 meters in the javelin throw as the ULM men’s track &field team finished fourth and the women came in third at the SFA Dogwood Invitational Saturday afternoon on the campus of Stephen F. Austin.

Kent, who was an All-American in the javelin in 2008, took home a third-place finish with his NCAA Regional qualifying mark. Nicole Simmons finished first in the triple jump after she recorded a distance of 38-07.75 feet, while Taylor Hill took home first place in the high jump competition. Hill cleared a height of 5-07.00 feet for the win.

Victoria Floyd took home first place in the 100m dash with a time of 12.59 seconds. She also came in third in the 200m dash with a time of 25.93 seconds.

Lakeitha Elmore was also victorious in the shot put with a mark of 45-06.50 feet, as she took home her first win of the outdoor season in the shot put. Elmore was the Sun Belt Conference champion in the shot put for the indoor season.

Josh Howard came in second in the triple jump with a distance of 47-09.00 feet, while Destiny Montemayor came in third in the hammer throw with a toss of 50.85 meters. Isaac Combs took home second place in the long jump with a mark of 22-04.25 feet.

“Overall I was pleased with our efforts at the SFA Dogwood Invitational,” head coach J.D. Malone said. “Our athletes did a good job this weekend.”

The Warhawks will be back in action next weekend at the LSU Relays and the Alabama Relays, both starting on Saturday.
