ULM Track & Field has Solid Performances at Southern Miss and McNeese State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The ULM track & field team posted six first place finishes as the squad sent its runners to the Southern Miss Invitational in Hattiesburg, Miss., and throwers to Lake Charles, La., to compete at the Cowboy Relays at McNeese State on Saturday.

Richard McKay and Marcie Richard both earned victories in the javelin throw at the Cowboy Relays. McKay recorded a throw of 63.32m while Richard’s distance of 43.87m qualified her for the NCAA Regionals. Destiny Montemayor also finished second in the hammer throw with a toss of 47.98m.

Andrew Opata and Sadrina Shaw scored victories at the Southern Miss Invitational in the 800m run and 400m hurdles, respectively. Opata finished with a time of 1:55.19 while Shaw recorded a time of 1:02.47.

Along with his win in the 800m, Opata also helped the men’s 4x400m relay squad earn a first-place finish as they crossed in a time of 3:14.48. Kentwan Carter, Keyon Jones, and Mychal Word also contributed to the winning time.

Heather Davis and Taylor Hill grabbed the top two spots for ULM in the high jump competition at the Southern Miss Invitational. Davis cleared a height of 5-08.75 feet, while Hill leaped a height of 5-01.00 feet.

The Warhawks will be back in action next weekend in Nacogdoches, Texas, as they compete in the SFA Dogwood Invitational.
