ULM Men's Cross Country Wins NSU Invitational

NATCHITOCHES, La. – The ULM men’s cross country team won the team title at the NSU Invitational hosted by Northwestern State at Demon Hills Golf Course in Natchitoches, La., Monday afternoon, while the Warhawk women finished sixth.

Andrew Opata won the four-mile race and led a group of four Warhawks in the top 10. Opata finished with a time of 21:47.47 which was two seconds ahead of second-place finisher Darwin Price from Grambling State, while junior Jorrell Torres finished fifth with a time of 22:21.78.

Kendall Robbins and Britt Koestler turned in top 10 performances for the Warhawks finishing sixth and ninth, respectively. Seth Hall finished 11th, Richard Sanders came in 16th and Kentwan Carter placed 18th to round out the field for ULM.

The women’s team was led by Kelsie Coat's 11th-place finish with a time of 22:25.01 in the 5K race. Denise Myers crossed just behind her teammate in a time of 22:45.16, good for 14th place.

Centenary's Brittany Wilkens won the women's individual title with a time of 20:09.44, while Grambling State won the team event.

Sadrina Shaw (28th), Brittany Rogers (38th), and Dominique McAdoo (39th) rounded out the field for the Warhawks.

ULM caught a tough break when Brittany Blackmon suffered an injury during the race knocking her out of a potential first place finish.

The Warhawks will be back in action Oct. 11 when they compete in the Watson Ford Invitational in Clinton, Miss., before the Sun Belt Conference Championship in Bowling Green, Ky., Nov. 1.
