ULM Cross Country to Compete at Northwestern State

MONROE, La. – The ULM men’s and women’s cross country squads will compete in the NSU Invitational hosted by Northwestern State on Monday Sept. 29 in Natchitoches, La.

This will be the second event of the season for both teams. The men are coming off a stellar performance in the Warhawk Invitational Sept. 20, winning all four dual scoring matches they ran in.

Moses Chelimo was the top finisher for the men finishing in sixth place, with the Warhawks having every runner finish in the top 16 spots. Andrew Opata and Britt Koestler joined Chelimo with top 10 finishes.

The women’s team was led by Brittany Blackmon who finished third with a time of 19:45.24, which was almost half a minute faster than last year in the same event.

“Coming off of a solid outing on our home course last weekend and following up a great week of training, I’m excited to see how our kids perform,” head cross country coach William Rogers said. “I expect that they’ll still be bit tired from a very demanding period of training over the last two weeks, but at this point in the season being a bit tired is not a bad thing.”

The next event for ULM will be in Clinton, Miss., at the Watson Ford Invitational Oct. 11 before the Sun Belt Conference Championship in Bowling Green, Ky., Nov. 1.
