WHITE LEADS THE WAY ON DAY ONE AT REGIONALS

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Senior thrower Teremine White launched a throw of 56 ft. 4.75 in. (17.19 m) in the shot put to lead the way for the Southeastern Louisiana University track and field program on day one of the 2008 NCAA Mideast Regional hosted by the University of Arkansas. White's toss was good enough to claim tenth place in the highly competitive field and was his fourth-best toss of the season.

Unfortunately for the Lions, White, the 2008 Southland Conference shot put champion, faced stiff competition and finished just 10.25 inches out of point-scoring range.

Other Southeastern athletes boasting strong performances on day one in Fayetteville were freshman sprinter Shannon Grover, who posted personal best times in the mens' 100 m dash (10.33) and 200 m dash (20.82), and senior thrower Colleena Collins who turned in a personal best mark of 183 ft. 8 in. (55.98 m) in the women's hammer throw.

"Our kids competed very well today," Southeastern head coach Sean Brady said. "The fact that we had kids posting personal best marks that still finished outside of point-scoring range proves that this is probably the most competitive region in the country."

The Lions and Lady Lions will return to action on Saturday. White is slated to compete in the mens' discus, his strongest event and another event in which he claimed the SLC title. Sophomore Kalphys Kemboi will compete in the 3000 m steeplechase, an event he won at the conference meet, and the Lions' men's 4x400 m relay squad will take the track in the final race of the Mideast Regional meet.
