SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Once again senior thrower Teremine White led the way for the Southeastern Louisiana University track and field program, setting a new school record with a 194 ft. throw in the discus, but he wasn't the only Lion turning heads at the UC San Diego Triton Relays on Saturday. Sophomore hurdler Adlus Wiltz was crowned the 400 m intermediate hurdle champion, senior thrower Dwight Womack hit a regional mark in the discus, and Yvette Schubert led the Lady Lions by taking third in the javelin against one of the strongest fields in the country. The day's results had Southeastern head coach Sean Brady ecstatic.
"Overall it was a fantastic meet. We saw great competition in some events and it was probably the best competition in the country in some events, especially the discus," Brady said. "It was great to head out there and have our kids represent Southeastern the way they did. We had people who knew nothing about our school or our program coming up and asking about us."
White's new school record of 194 ft. in the discus shattered the old mark and earned him eighth place. An impressive feat against one of the deepest discus fields in the nation that included a pair of Olympic medalists.
"We had a great meet and our kids really represented Southeastern well out here," Brady said. "A lot of really well known established schools as well as professional athletes were at this meet and our kids stacked up well. And, we not only stacked up well, but we actually beat a lot of those folks. When you go into a meet like this and you have a champion and a few people in the top three it speaks very well for your athletes. They really made us proud today."
