Class of '17 Top 5 Distance Watchlist

Gabriella Chauvin, SJA- Chauvin showed up on the scene with a breakout sophomore campaign that has helped her team to a first and second place finish the past two years in cross.  Her bests of 2:21, 5:17 and 18:18 shows why she is more often than not found on the awards stand at a state meet.

Annie Hill, SJA- The other SJA runner on this watchlist is not new to any lists we've compiled.  Hill has run more than her fair share of fast times in the past.   Injuries and illnesses have put her behind the past couple years, but talent doesn't go away.  She dropped and 18:00 at CHS this year which is her PR to go along with 2:25, 5:06, and 11:19.  If she can get back on course with steady training and no injuries, all she has to do is run what she is capable of to be a major presence next.

Alissa Landers, Lakeside- Whatever is in the water in Sibley, it produces state champions.  Landers comes from a line of great runners from Lakeside.  She looks to be most comfortable in the longer races, having PRs in the shorter events at 2:29 and 5:42 but really shines with her 11:54 (from her runner-up indoor performance) and 18:24.  She won a competitive 2A state XC meet over another girl on the watchlist.

Alicia Stamey, EHS- Episcopal has been known to produce a good runner or two as well and this year is no different.  Stamey is rolling into the outdoor season having top times of 2:21, 5:18, 11:45, and 17:49.  All but the 800 were set within the last 5 months.  She picked up her first individual title a couple weeks ago, powering away from the field in the 1600 in the D2 race.

Emily Doyle, Dominican-  Doyle is another runner who enjoys the longer events.  She has PRs of 2:33, 5:34, 11:50 and 18:29.  Most importantly she has two podium finishes in the highest divisions.  Expect a good tussle with the other 5A runners listed here for top honors over the next few seasons.
