ULM Track and Field Continues Strong Outdoor Season with Eight Top Finishes at the North Texas Class

DENTON, Texas Highlighted by another school record setting performance by junior Destiny Montemayor, the ULM track and field team enjoyed another strong outing during the outdoor season at the North Texas Classic in Denton on Friday afternoon.

 

“It was a really great day for our field events,” ULM head coach J.D. Malone said. “Despite being a smaller meet, it was pretty competitive. After having such a good meet last weekend at the Texas Relays, I was glad we were able to have a strong day today.”

 

After besting the school record at the Texas Relays, Montemayor picked up a first place finish in the hammer throw with a Sun Belt Conference high mark of 57.17 meters. Montemayor also finished second in the discus with a throw of 47.04 meters.

 

Junior Heather Davis (high jump) and sophomore Aimee Soileaux (pole vault) also finished with top marks on the women’s side in their respective events.

 

On the men’s side, four individuals and the 4x400 meter relay team finished with the top marks in their respective events. Freshman Jeffery Kent (javelin), freshman Ryan Hisaw (shot put), and freshman William Robbins (steeplechase) won their events.

 

In the men’s long jump the Warhawks finished with the top three finishers highlighted by junior Isaac Combs jump of 7.22 meters. Senior Rani Giladi and sophomore Brandon Smithers finished second and third, respectively.

 

The Warhawks return to the track on Thursday, April 17 when they travel to Lawrence, Kan. for the Kansas Relays.
