Montemayor Named Sun Belt Women's Field Performer of the Week

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- After setting a new school record and qualifying for the outdoor regional in the hammer throw, ULM junior Destiny Montemayor was named Sun Belt Conference Women's Field Performer of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.

 

A native of Waco, Texas, Montemayor placed fifth at the prestigious 81st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin with a throw of 56.03, besting her previous school record set at the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Championships by nearly two meters.

 

Montemayor's heave is the longest in the event by a league performer by nearly six meters.

 

The junior's school record highlighted a weekend in which the Warhawks achieved three regionally qualifying marks and placed four individuals in the top five or their respective events.

 

The ULM track and field team will continue the outdoor season on Friday, April 11 when it travels to Denton to take on the field at the North Texas Invitational.
