McNeese Cowboys win their own Cowboy Relays

A total of four records were set in the college division and two were posted in the high school division of the annual McNeese State Cowboy Relays here Saturday.
Host McNeese State claimed the men's title while Northwestern State took the women's crown. In the high school division, Kinder won the girls title and Pickering the boys title.
McNeese score 91 points to outdistance Northwestern State which had 67 points in the men's division. The Lady Demons outscored McNeese and Nicholls in the women's division, notching 103 points to the Cowgirls 96 and the Lady Colonels 70.
Kinder scored 123 points to win the girls division while LaGrange had 81, Pickering 74, L. W. Higgins 47, South Cameron 34, Barbe 34, Iowa 31 and Elton six.
In the boys division, Pickering scored 187 followed by Kinder with 153, Anacoco 18, Lacassine 10, Hathaway 10, LaGrange and St. Louis eight each, Barbe four and Elton two.
Records broken in the university division were those in the men's hammer throw and the women's shot put, hammer, high jump and pole vault.
Daniel Yarbrough of Northwestern State won the men's hammere with a throw of 181-10 that broke the mark of 158-11 that had been set last year.
The Lady Demons accounted for records in the women's shot put and discus and the Cowgirls for records in the high jump and pole vault. Trecey Rew tossed the shot 48-4 3/4 for that record and teammate DeJon Griffin went 161-5 in the hammer for a record. Cowgirl standout Lindsay Brooks won the high jump with a record 5-7 leap and Julie Buller went 10-6 to post the pole vault record.
The two records that fell in the high school division came from Erin Kleckley with a 10-4 pole vault and from Janessa Doucette from Iowa with a 44.75 clocking in the 300 meter hurdles.
McNeese State sprinter Christi McRae and weight performer John Jamail were double event winners. McRae claimed the 100 meter dash in 11.93 and the 200 meters in 24.39. Both marks were just short of the school records.
Jamail won the shot put with a throw of 53-7 1/2 and took the discus with a throw of 144-4.
Other McNeese athletes claiming victory in the field events were Marcus Brown with a 23-10 3/4 long jump, Tim Guillory with a 46-11 3/4 triple jump and James Overbo with a 15 foot pole vault.
In the running events, the Cowboys got first places from Stephen Scullion in the 1500 meter run at 3:56.28, from Johnathan Koenck with a 9:44.31 in the steeplechase, from the 4x400 meter relay team of Dwight Charles, Michael Washington, Marc Dillon and Michael Dyer with a 3:23.96 clocking, from Dyer with a 1:54.07 in the 800 meter reun and from Sean Brinson with a 59.55 in the 400 meter hurdles.
Another first place for the Cowgirls came from DeAnn Washington with a 163-3 throw in the discus.
