MONROE, La. --- Ten ULM track & field student-athletes received all-Louisiana honors as announced by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association over the weekend. The best three marks in each event, based on the NCAA performance list, receive the state honor.
Senior Maya Aden led the pack with honors in three events - the 1,500-meter run (2nd; 3:51.53), 3,000-meter steeplechase (2nd; 9:03.00), and 5,000-meter run (3rd; 14:55.38). Aden finished his collegiate career as one of the premier distance runners in Warhawk history.
Senior Walt Williams, the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Outstanding Men's Outdoor Field Performer, was the best in the state in two events - the shot put (56' 7.5") and the discus (178' 9").
Sophomore Andrew Opata was honored in the 800-meter run (3rd; 1:51.43) and with his 4x400-meter relay teammates - Malcom Bosworth, Kendrick Shepherd, and Mychal Word - with their NCAA regional qualifying time and the third-best time in the state of 3:09.17.
On the women's side, Amy Harris, Sadrina Shaw, Heather Davis and Destiny Montemayor received state honors.
Harris, a junior, finished second in the state in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:41.32, while Shaw, a sophomore, finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.04.
Davis, ULM's only NCAA national qualifier in 2007, was second in the state in the high jump with a leap of 5' 10.75".
Montemayor, a sophomore, was third in the discus with a throw of 153' 6".
