Gebauer and Hill head up McNeese contingent on all-Louisiana track and field team

Brad Gebauer and Chris Hill head up a list of 12 McNeese State athletes who have been named to the all-Louisiana track and field team for 2007 by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Gebauer was named the men's team outstanding field performer as well as newcomer of the year while Hill shared freshman of the year honors with LSU's Jamaal James.

Gebauer won the NCAA indoor pole vault title back in March and also set school records for both indoor and outdoor. Hill set a American junior record in the javelin and last week won the junior national title.

Other McNeese athletes named to the team were Alan Foolkes in the 10,000 meters, Marcus Brown in the triple jump, John Jamail in the shot put and the hammer, Jan Bicanic in the shot put, Freddie Hannie in the hammer, Jon Fagan in the decathlon, Sonia Clark in the women's 10,000 meters, Lindsay Brooks in the high jump, Katarina Busljeta in the discus and Stephanie Gilbert in the hammer.

Gebauer had the top height among Louisiana athletes in the pole vault this past season with a leap of 18-1 while Hannie was tops in the men's hammer with a throw of 178-9.

For the women, Brooks had the top height in the high jump at a school record 5-10 3/4 and Busljeta was the best in the discus with a throw of 162-8.

LSU's Dennis Shaver was named the men and the women coach of the year while the male track athlete of the year award went to LSU's Trindon Holliday.

In the women's division, LSU took all of the special awards as Sherry Fletcher was the track athlete of the year, Andrea Linton the field athlete of the year, LaTavia Thomas the freshman of the year and Nickiesha Wilson the newcomer of the year.
