Jon Fagan won the heptathlon on Saturday at the Southland Conference indoor track and field champion

Houston, TX - Jon Fagan won the men's heptathlon here Saturday to highlight indoor track and field action for McNeese State at the annual Southland Conference championship meet.

The Cowboy senior became the first McNeese performer to win the event since it became a part of the meet in 2004.

His total point accumulation was 5,216 points.

Fagan's first place enabled McNeese to finish with 38 1/2 points and take eighth place in the meet. UT San Antonio won the title with 114 1/2 points.

His first place was the second for the Cowboys in the meet as Brad Gebauer had won the pole vault on Friday.

The other points produced by the Cowboys on Saturday came from Marcus Brown in the triple jump and John Jamail in the shot put. Brown went 46-1 1/4 to place eighth in the triple jump and Jamail tossed the shot 53-9 3/4 for fifth place.

In the women's division, the Cowgirls did not score a point on Saturday and finished with the two they tallied Friday when Debranique Warnell ran seventh in the pentathlon. They were 11th in the meet that was won by Sam Houston State with 135 points.
