COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Trey Hadnot put two times in the school’s top 10 charts and Kim Francis ran the fourth-fastest 60m hurdles time in the nation this year as Louisiana Tech wrapped up competition at the Texas A&M 10 Team Invitational late Saturday at the McFerrin Athletic Center in College Station.
Overall, the women’s team finished fourth out of 10 teams with 60 points behind second-ranked Texas A&M (167), No. 26 Baylor (120) and SMU (65). The men’s team finished seventh in the meet with 30 points, edging Conference USA foe Rice by five.
Hadnot’s impressive day started in the 200m where his time of 21.05 placed him fourth in the race and marks the seventh-fastest time in school history. The Ruston, La. native currently owns the 11 fastest indoor 200m times in school history.
The senior continued the impressive performance as he anchored the 4x400m relay that ran 3:14.54 to finish seventh in the meet with the sixth-fastest time in school history. Hadnot was joined by Yusuf Muhammad, Darius Statham and Andrew Hunt in the relay.
In the women’s 60m hurdles, Francis ran an impressive 8.29 to win the race after running 8.47 in the prelims. A senior from Youngsville, La., Francis’ time currently ranks third in school history, fourth in the nation and tied for 13th in the world this year along with Kayla Parker (USA) and Cindy Roleder (Germany). She finished only one-hundredth (0.01) of a second from matching the school record set by Antoinette Cobb in 2010 and matched by Francis in an altitude-adjusted time at last year’s Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M.
Sophomore Bianca Jackson finished second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.53.
A school record did get matched in the women’s high jump as Pamela Lee jumped 5-8.5 (1.74m) to tie the record set by Joy Loyd at the 2004 WAC Indoor Championships in Boise, Idaho. Lee won the event in College Station by a half-inch over Texas A&M’s Jena Hemann. Denisha Henix also scored in the high jump, placing eighth with a mark of 5-4.25 (1.63m).
Newcomer Jamelia Johnson, a junior transfer from St. Peter’s, finished second in the triple jump behind Texas A&M’s LaQue Moen-Davis who won with a meet record jump. Johnson’s jump of 40-8.75 (12.41m) is a personal best and ranks 10th in school history.
In the women’s long jump Henix led the Lady Techsters with a fourth-place finish, jumping 18-1 (5.51m) while Mia Adams’ mark of 17-11.75 (5.48m) placed her seventh.
Aldresha Bailey would add points for LA Tech in the 400m with a time of 55.68 to finish fifth. Taneka Henderson fell just short of scoring with a ninth-place finish, running 57.36.
SaBrittany Angelle would score in two throwing events as she finished sixth in the shot put (45-4.25, 13.82m) and seventh in the weight throw (52-6, 16.00m).
Devin Henderson would score for the Bulldogs in both horizontal jumping events as the junior from Conroe, Texas finished fifth in the triple jump (46-8, 14.22m) and sixth in the long jump (23-4, 7.11m).
Anthony Plourde would run 8:42.89 in the 3,000m to finish sixth overall while Aaron Orduno threw 51-3.75 (15.64m) in the shot put to finish fifth.
In all, 12 different Lady Techsters and nine different Bulldogs scored in a meet that offered a brief preview of what will come at the 2014 Conference USA Indoor Championships.
Louisiana Tech returns to action on Jan. 30 at the KMS Invitational hosted by Southern Miss at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. The CrossPlex will also host the C-USA Championships beginning Feb. 28.
