COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team posted a pair of school records and earned six first-place performances, while finishing third overall in both the men's and women's events at the Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational on Friday at the Gilliam Indoor Track and Field Stadium.
Meredith Driskill (pole vault) and Justin Victor (weight throw) each posted school-records in claiming their respective events while Morgan Breaux (60-meter dash), Lindsey Harmon (high jump), Tia Mitchell (triple jump) and Kenneth Nassar (shot put) each earned first-place performances in the Ragin' Cajuns indoor season opener.
On the women's side, the Ragin' Cajuns scored 99.5 points to place third in the 11-team event behind Stephen F. Austin (130) and Sam Houston State (108). In the men's 16-event schedule, the Ragin' Cajuns scored 68.5 points to finish behind SFA (105) and SHSU (103).
"We had a bunch of high marks on both sides today and we were pleased with the results," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "The women were highly competitive with some good marks and we had some great performances today on the men's side. I was pleased with how our seniors and veterans performed today … they did what they had to do. Overall, it was business as usual."
Driskill claimed the women's pole vault with a mark of 12 feet, 4.75 inches to eclipse her previous record. Breaux posted a time of 7.59 seconds to claim the 60-meters while Harmon recorded a mark of 5 feet, 6 inches in the high jump with Mitchell earning a top performance after jumping 18-8.50.
Victor claimed the men's weight throw title after his winning throw of 63-9.50 set a school record while Nassar claimed the shot put title after recording a winning throw of 52-7.25.
Alex Harrell (5-6, women's high jump), Tarvia Conway (39-7.75, women's triple jump), Devin Davis (23-9, men's long jump) and Ricky Theyard (49-3, men's triple jump) all earned second-place finishes for the Ragin' Cajuns with Ta'Shania Bean (39-0.25, women's triple jump), Jana Jones (41-10.75), women's shot put) and Dionte Heath (6-6.25, men's high jump) all recording third-place performances.
The Ragin' Cajuns will return to action on Friday (Jan. 24) when it travels to compete in the A-State Invitational, hosted by Arkansas State.
