Thoughts on your Coach
well, Ray has been coaching me for 3 years now, which is longer than ny other
coach i have had. Each year he is gaining more and more experience but for
now he understands very well the science of running and he doing a great job
at making us as fast as we can be.
Favorite/ most memorable race you have run this year/and in your career?
My favorite race this year would have to be the Walker High Shootout, it
was the first race where everything was able to fall into plan. The weather
was great there was a good field and i felt relaxed the entire morning.
dropping my first 15:30's 3 mile was pretty sweet too.
Now as far as my career goes i would have to say the district CSAL meet my
8th grade year. i was still the only one in my grade running at the time so
everyone i had been training with throughout the season was able to cheer me
on. The last 400M of that race have been the one thing i will never forget,
i spent the whole race 20M behind the front pack of 5 guys, freshmen from
Episcopal and Catholic High i think, as we crossed the brige for the final
stretch i made a move and flew by the whole pack and finsihed 2nd about 10M
behind the leader who lead the whole race.
Are you looking forward/ getting excited about the state meet?
im pumped up about state this year. I have had a healthy season this year
which is all i can ever ask for and i think i will be able to really drop my
pr
Who do you consider your biggest rival in state both individually and as a
team?
deffinatly my biggest individual rival is my good friend "Chico", Steven
Cortez, from ED White. He ran well last year and we had a good week at camp
togeth at the GSCCRC or CSDRC, depending on how oldschool you are. we have
both made high expectations this year and i hope we both accomplish them. As
far as team whise i gues you could say EDW as well but we have a very young
team and we have faced a lot of chalenging obstacles.
What's your motivation to keep pushing in races when you're out front
alone and know you have it won?
actually i run best when im out front all alone. there is just less stress
and i feel more relaxed. I just enjoy pushing the pain. Too bad this hasen't
happend yet this season.
What is/ were your goals for this season/ and do you feel you have met
them/will meet them?
my two biggest goals for this year have been to run in 15:20's and to win
that state individual tital. I have yet to capture either but i know
district is going to be a fast race between me and phil G for metro champion.
Any superstitions? race day rituals?
Heh. i do have a few things that i tend to do the night before races. i
always sleep in my racing shorts the night before a race and i typicaly
don't shower the night before as well
What do you do when you are not running/hobbies etc?
all i have had time to do so far is study durring the week and just
hangging out with the guys all weekend. we either just talk all night long
or go to concerts around town and head over to IHOP as soon as the sun
rises. i have been able to make more time for my girlfriend latly so thats
been nice
Are you going to continue running in college? Which colleges are you
considering?
i have been taking seriouse thought in accepting a scholarship from UL
Monroe. They have recently hired a new coach, Tobby Reep, from North Texas
state, i have been very excited about it.
Who is someone you look to as a role model (running and non)?
i think i could break it down to 3 major role models that i have looked up
to in the different stages of my career. Cory Denstil, Eric Tucker, and Ray
Clement II have been my biggest role models so far
If you could tell a young and upcoming runner one thing that helped you
>reach where you are right now what would it be?
"Imitatin is suicide" run how your body and mind wills you to and break all
the records you come across.
How's it feel to have the 7th fastest time in Louisiana this year?
When you
show up to a meet do you feel others are intimidated and how do you keep
yourself humble with the amount of success you have enjoyed?
Hey one of my goals from lst year were to become feared by my opponents, i
guess i have spooked a few at least. I love being feared and every time i get
a chance i give people another good reason to do so. being hummble is easy,
i have at least 6 other guys in the state that don't even blink when they
stand next to me on the line.
