Gladney leads NSU at Mook 5 Invitational

RUSTON – The Northwestern State cross country teams showed a strong outing at the Louisiana Tech Mook 5 Invitational Saturday morning hosted by Louisiana Tech.
 
Joining NSU in its season opener were the host Bulldogs, Grambling State, Mississippi Valley State, Jackson State, Alcorn State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Louisiana College, Centenary and Southeastern Oklahoma.
 
"Overall, it was a good day for both teams," said head track and field coach Mike Heimermann. " We're happy with where our athletes are performing right now and we're looking forward to the rest of the season."
 
The Demons were led by junior Albert Gladney and sophomore Mitch Landry, both earning top-15 performances with times of 15:57.39 and 15:58.93, respectively. Jeremy Elliot finishing in 17:10.43 to round out the top three for NSU.
 
Freshman Annie Fillers made her college debut with a 10th place finish in 20:49.20 as Shannon Moore placed 15th with a time of 21:13.10.
 
Asah James (22:04.53) and Titi Oden-Shobayo (23:45.08)rounded out finishers for the Lady Demons.
 
Both teams will compete on Saturday at the McNeese Cowboy 5K Stampede on Saturday in Lake Charles.
