LeBlanc runs nation's fastest time of the season in 1,500

HOUSTON – McNeese's Jarrett LeBlanc recorded the nation's best time of the season in the 1,500 meters when he ran a 3:46.23 for a first place finish at the Rice Victor Lopez Classics on Saturday.
 
LeBlanc's mark also ranks as one of the top three fastest in McNeese school history.  The previous fastest of the season was held by Riley Martin of UC Irvine with a 3:46.93.
 
The Cowboys also got a career-first, first place finish from freshman Hunter Burleson in the javelin event when he marked out with a 183-4 throw.
 
On the women's side, Jasmine Webb took first in the 100 meters with a time of 11.73 and also had a third place finish in the 200 meters with a 24.44.  Webb was also a member of the 4x100 relay squad, joining Ashleigh Wells, Danielle Epps and Paige Lynch, that placed second in the event with a time of 45.75.
 
Other scoring marks for the Cowgirls saw Jasmine Cornelius place second in the long jump with a leap of 18-8; La'Shantena Rounds fifth in the hammer throw (168-6) and seventh in the shot put (45-0 ½).
 
In addition to LeBlanc's and Burleson's first place finishes, the Cowboys got points from Martin Delguste after a fourth place finish in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:49.61; Daniel Cliffe seventh in the 5,000 meters with a 15:02.32; Cody Skarupa seventh in the 400 meter hurdles with a 54.88; and Thomas Canchola with a fifth place finish in the shot put (53-3) and seventh in the hammer throw (176-0).
 
The Cowboys tied for ninth place in the overall team standings out of 22 teams.  McNeese totaled 38 points in the meet while Harvard won the team title with 92 points to edge out Sam Houston State who finished with 91 points.
 
On the women's side, the Cowgirls placed 10th out of 21 schools with 36 points.  Notre Dame won the event with 121 points followed by Rice with 113.5.
 
Both the Cowboys and Cowgirls will be back in action this Wednesday when they take pare in the four-day, Texas Relays.
