North DeSoto Griffins Sweep District 1-4A Championships!

NORTH DESOTO GIRLS AND BOYS CELEBRATE AFTER SWEEPING THE DISTRICT 1-4A MEET

Add North DeSoto to the list of Louisiana high school track and field programs who swept their district meet this week. It made it even more special for the Griffins to win the District 1-4A Championship on their home turf.

The Lady Griffins beat defending LHSAA Class 4A state outdoor champions, Huntington, by scoring 174 points. The Lady Raiders, led by Demetria Harris' 40 points, scored 172 points.

Harris' day was highlighted by a personal record 19-1 in the long jump. It's the No. 3 ranked jump in Louisiana this year. She also won the triple jump (39-1.5),100m hurdles, and 200m (25.19). 

North DeSoto won six events in the girls' division. 

 Taylor Clark (12.40) won the 100m, Macaylah Tingle (2:36.37)  won the 800m, Yazmin Ferguson won the discus (111-0), Mikayla Mondello (111-0) won the javelin, and Molly Wiley (9-0) won the pole vault. 

The Lady Griffin 4x800m team of Tingle, Makayla Butler, Ellie Simmons, and D'Anna Robinson won the 4x800m (11:18). 

Besides Harris' four-win performance, the Lady Raiders picked up wins from Janayah Dotson in the 800m (58.89) and Anaiyah Narvaja in the high (4-10). In the relays, the Lady Raiders came away with wins in the 4x100m (48.57), 4x200m (1:41.64), and 4x400m (4:11.16).

The North DeSoto boys, led by jumper Javonte Taylor, scored 150 points, 23 points more than Huntington. 

Taylor won the triple jump (43-10), finished second in the high jump (6-4), and finished third in the long jump (21-0) to give his team 24 points. 

Other Griffins coming away with district championships included Dale Howard in the 110m hurdles (15.82) and Dylan Compton (2:01.38) in the 800m. 

The highlight of the meet was the boys long jump where Evangel's Roy Morris Jr. jumped 24-4.74. It's the longest jump in the state this year and ranks No. 16 in the nation. 

Caddo Magnet went No.1 and No. 2 in both the 1600m and 3200m. Lee Ballard won the 3200m (11:37) and finished second in the 1600m (5:00). Ballard's teammate, Jack Pattillo, took home the gold medal in the 1600m (4:52). Magne't Jason Ostrowski finished second in the 3200m (11:45).
