St. Thomas Aquinas Meet Preview and Virtual Meet

The Cross Country season is up and running and the St. Thomas Aquinas Cross Country team will be hosting the 24th Annual STA-S&S Sports Invitational on its campus in Hammond.  A total of 675 runners are entered in a total of twelve races to be contested on Saturday morning, with nine high schools competing in the Varsity and JV divisions.  Ascension Catholic boys and girls teams will be leading the way in the Varsity races, while the John Curtis boys team and STA girls will be right in the hunt for the Varsity team title.  STA will be joined by Ascension Catholic, Ponchatoula, First Baptist, St. Katherine Drexel, Lakeshore, Jewel Sumner and Covington. While the STA boys will be joined by Ascension Catholic, John Curtis, Ponchatoula, Lakeshore, Sumner and Covington.  First Baptist Gabby Jennings will be the favorite in the girls race, while STA's Bobbi Amar leads a host of Lady Falcons that should be in the top positions along with several of the Ascension Catholic girls.  On the boys side Ascension Catholics Zach Capello should win easily with three or four of his teammates following closely with several of the John Curtis and Ponchatoula and STA boys.  The Trafton girls should dominate the JH division with fifth grader Breanna Becerra and eighth grader Abby Bates battling out for the top position with three or four teammates following closely. While the Trafton boys should put at least five runners in the top ten positions led by eighth graders Victor Harvey and John Ross Donnes and fourth grader Kollin Poche.
