Loyola finishes Season at Southern Miss Black and Gold

(Hattiesburg, Miss.) Loyola University New Orleans men’s and women’s track and field teams wrapped up the 2014 track season at the Black and Gold Invitational on Saturday, May 3rd. The meet was held at Marshall Bell Track and Field Complex on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi.

Stevie Baray-Forgét set two school records and was the meet’s top finisher in the javelin in her first Wolf Pack competition. Baray-Forgét placed her name in the school record books with a javelin throw of 38.22 meters. That broke Jodie Clements school mark of 32.39 which had stood since 1999. Baray-Forgét also broke Jennifer LaBiche’s school record in the discus. LaBiche had a 26.52m toss while Baray-Forgét finished the Black and Gold Invitational with a mark of 27.18m.

Kennedi Henneberger finished with a personal best in the 800m as she finished in 2:30.08, the second fastest Wolf Pack 800m time of the season. She followed that by taking seventh in the 1500m with a 5:15.31 mark.

On the men’s side, Paul Freese set a Wolf Pack record with a 4:10.13 time in the 1500m race. The personal best mark defeated Richard Bouckaert’s time of 4:10.24 which has stood in the Wolf Pack annals since 2004. Freese almost broke the record earlier this year with a time of 4:10.89 at the Mississippi College Twilight Invitational on April 4th.

Christian Lynch finished the 100m dash with a time of 11.09. Lynch set the school’s 100m record last weekend at the SSAC Championships with a 10.94 time. Justin Johnson finished 11th in the 200m dash. Johnson recorded a mark of 22.33 while placing 11th. Johnson was coming off a record setting 22.09 performance at the SSAC Championships.

Anthony Parker took fourth in the men’s javelin competition with a 37.21m distance. This was one week after the sophomore was crowned SSAC conference champion in the javelin.
