SLU\'s CARTER POSTS SLC-BEST THROW IN JAVELIN

HAMMOND – Three meets in a span of four days. A busy week for the Southeastern Louisiana track and field team.


Despite the hectic schedule that featured meets at Tennessee, Louisiana Tech and Southern, Southeastern posted some impressive performances heading into the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships, scheduled for next month in Arlington, Texas.


Southeastern began the week competing at the Jim Mize Twilight Invitational in Ruston with Dwight Womack and Katie Isola pacing the team with fourth-place finishes in the men's and women's discus respectively. Womack, who also finished fourth in the shot put at the Pelican Relays, hosted by Southern, posted a mark of 155-6 while Isola recorded her second-best throw of the season (138-7).


Fayola Wilson added a pair of second-place finishes on the week, competing in both the shot put (41-11) at the Pelican Relays and discus (152-3) at the Jim Mize Twilight.


Southeastern sent a five-man contingent to the Sea Ray Relays, hosted by the University of Tennessee, with Chris Carter setting a season-best throw in the javelin (233-3). The 2005 All-American, who was rated fourth in the Mideast Region and 13th in the nation by TrackShark.com, helped Southeastern to a 2-3-4 showing in the event as he posted the best throw in the Southland Conference this season.


Lars Mueller Laursen, ranked third in the Mideast Region and eighth in the country, posted a season-high throw in the javelin (229-1) to finish third with Cal Hamilton (219-5) placing fourth.


In the discus, Teremine White, ranked No. 1 in the Mideast region and 13th in the country, finished first after posting a throw of 182-1 with Ruben Stephens finishing fifth (174-8).


On the women's side, Melissa Jones posted the SLC's best mark in the high jump this season after clearing 5-10 to finish first at the Pelican Relays. Leonie Ezegbunam finished third overall after setting a personal-best (5-6) in the high jump with Kim Carriere posting a season-best in the shot put (39-8) to finish fourth overall.


Both teams will return to action on April 22 when it competes in the LSU Alumni Gold Meet at Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
