Kim Francis Leads Tech as Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season

 

LAFAYETTE, La. - Kim Francis posted two top-five finishes as Louisiana Tech opened the 2012 outdoor track and field season at the Louisiana Classics meet in Lafayette.

In all, the men’s and women’s team claimed 11 top-five finishes at the meet.

Francis won the 100m dash with a time of 11.81, barely beating teammate Kimberly Smith who ran 11.82. Francis also placed second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.47 where she was only bested by Mississippi State’s Keisha Wallace who set a facility record with a time of 13.22.

Micara Vassell also claimed a second place finish, throwing 46-6 (14.17m) in the shot put while Marcella LeBlanc finished fourth with a throw of 45-35 (13.80m). LeBlanc also finished 21st in the discus with a throw of 122-9 (37.41m) while her younger sister, Jasmine, threw 142-5 (43.42m) to finish seventh.

Reyna Anderson finished fifth in the 400m with a time of 56.70 while also running the second leg of the 4x400m relay team – along with Aldresha BaileyTaneka Hendersonand Dominique Crosby – that finished second with a time of 3:47.41. The women’s “B” relay team followed that with a third place finish as the quartet of Diamond EveryStacia HannemanChelsea Hayes and Smith ran 3:49.01.

On the men’s side, Alwayne Green finished second in the 800m with a time of 1:54.04 while Trey Hadnot ran 10.49 in the 100m to finish fourth.

 

Joshua Cox made his first appearance for Tech as he finished third in the javelin with a throw of 213-9 (65.16m).

Louisiana Tech returns to action next weekend as the team heads to Houston for the Victor Lopez Classic hosted by Rice on March 23-24.
