Mutai Qualifies for NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Championships

INDIANAPOLIS - ULM junior Daniel Mutai earned his second straight invitation to the NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Championships Sunday, as announced by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee.

Mutai, a native of Kapsabet, Kenya, became the first runner in ULM history to race at the NCAA Division I Championships in 2010.  He placed fourth in this past weekend's NCAA South Central Regional Championships, logging a 10k time of 30:40.40 to finish ahead of 115 other participants.

38 runners were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process.  All individual qualifiers finished in the top 25 in their region.

The 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Championships are scheduled to begin Nov. 21 at 11:08 a.m. in Terre Haute, and will be hosted by Indiana State.
