The Trafton Academy Junior High girls ended the 2011Cross Country season undefeated with a team victory in the Northshore Metro Cross Country Championships held on the STA campus on Tuesday. The Lady Eagles scored (23) to runner-up St. Joseph with (38). Trafton put nine runners in the top eleven positions to win the title. Trafton’s Meghan Becerra was the individual winner followed by St. Joseph’s Lydia Pevey at the second position(12:59) and Sara Lavastida was third(13:26). Also joining Becerra for the Trafton team were: Emma Littell(4th-13:28), Destiny Williams(5th-13:32), Maggie Crawford(6th-13:50), Annie Walls(7th-13:53), Breanna Becerra(8th-14:03), Madelyn Nicaud(9th-14:20), Victoria Cefalu(10th-14:24), Jordan Strahan(11th-14:36), Emma Sale(16th-15:04), Olivia Rainey(18th-15:23), Presley Walls(19th-15:42), Brynleigh Berthelot(20th-16:03) and Caroline Eschete(22nd-16:20). Holy Ghost’ Hannah Lyons was 21st(16:04), while Holden’s Brooke Thompson was 24th(18:24).
The St. Paul’s boys scored a perfect team score of (15) to win the Junior High boys team title. Trafton’s Eric Coston was the individual champion in (10:21), while STA’s Adam Dibenedetto was second(11:51) and St. Paul’s Spencer Albright was third(12:13). Trafton’s Dawson Gildig was fifth(12:37), while Holden’s Jacob Wilder was 14th(17:08). Joining Albright on the winning Wolves team were: Tristan Smith(4th-12:14), Alex Weiner(6th-12:43), Zach Charles(7th-12:45), Ethan Hingle(8th-13:04), Matt Wallace(9th-13:05) and Jacob Bopp(11th-14:56).
The Mandeville High School girls won the Northshore Metro Varsity Girls team title with (43) over runner-up Fontainebleau(60), Walker was third(89), St. Scholastica Academy fourth(102), Jewel Sumner fifth(145), Northshore sixth(166), STA seventh(170), Lakeshore eighth(181), First Baptist ninth(196), Patrick Taylor Academy tenth(256) and Salmen eleventh(319). First Baptist eighth grader Gabrielle Jennings won the individual title in (17:30), while Mandeville’s Angelica Dickson was second(18:18) and Fontainebleau’s Nicole Durham was third(18:27). Ponchatoula’s Dana Reno posted a seventh place finish (19:52), Jewel Sumner’s Scotti Dykes was eighth(19:53), Holden’s Clarissa Smith was 17th(20:50), STA’s Grace Bernard was 21st(21:10) and Albany’s Kelsey Stratton was 93rd(28:31). The St. Paul’s boys continued their dominance in capturing the Varsity boys Northshore title with (24), over runner-up St. Thomas Aquinas with (62), Walker finished third(72), Mandeville was fourth(139), Ponchatoula fifth(141), Northshore sixth(159), Fontainebleau seventh(213), Patrick Taylor Academy eighth(243), Lakeshore ninth(245), Jewel Sumner tenth(261), Holy Rosary eleventh(297), Northlake Christian twelfth(344), Albany thirteenth(386) and Salmen fourteenth(388). St. Paul’s Sophomore Zach Albright captured the individual title in his first cross country win with a time of (15:24) just ahead of St. Paul’s Senior Scott Brewster at the second position(15:31) and St. Thomas Aquinas’ Senior Scott Wheat was third(15:31).
