BATON ROUGE – James Randall and Teremine White each earned first-place finishes on the men's side while Erica Cronin and Kim Carriere turned in second-place performances in the women's event as the Southeastern track and field team opened its 2006 indoor season Saturday at the LSU Purple Tiger at the Maddox Field House.
Randall, a junior from Clinton, earned first-place in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 48-4¾ and finished third overall in the long jump at 21-7¼. White, from Donaldsonville, took first place in the shot put at 54-9¼ as Southeastern set 14 personal-bests in the meet.
"It was a very good first meet," Southeastern track and field coach Sean Brady said. "We got a chance to see where we stand compared to schools in the state and in the (Southland) conference."
Prairieville's Ruben Stephens (52-4½) and Dwight Womack (46-5¼) each set personal-bests in the shot put while Chris Labat set a personal-best (47-0¾) in the weight throw.
On the women's side, Cronin, from Walker, posted a personal-best mark of 11-5¾ in the pole vault to finish second overall while Carriere, from Opelousas, placed second in the weight throw with a personal-best 51-7.
Leonie Ezegbunam set personal-best in both the 60- (7.87) and 200-meter dash (26.43) while Ashanti Smith turned in a personal-best in the 200 (27.12). Sophomore Amy Fleddermann set personal-bests in both the 60-meter hurdles (8.97) and high jump (5-3¾) while Katie Isola (49-7¼) and Fayola Wilson (47-9¼) each set personal-bests in the weight throw.
Southeastern returns to action on Jan. 21 when it competes in the Houston Indoor Invitational.
