SU Invitational Monday afternoon at Demon Hills has neighborhood feel

NATCHITOCHES – The first of two home meets this fall for the Northwestern State cross country teams will be held Monday afternoon as at least four area schools visit to run in the NSU Invitational at the Demon Hills Golf Course.

Centenary, Grambling, Louisiana College and Louisiana Tech will join the Demons and Lady Demons in the competition. The women’s 6,000 meter race begins at 4:30 with an 8k men’s race slated for a 5 p.m. start in the 12th fairway.  Entries are open until a half hour before the first race, so more teams may enter.

“The races will be run on an entirely grass course with a few small hills, but otherwise relatively flat and fast,” said Lady Demon coach Adam Malloy. “The women will run a 2,000 meter loop three times, and the men will run a 3,000 meter loop twice followed by one loop which is 2,000 meters, making the course very spectator friendly.”

Parking before approximately 4 o’clock will be available inside the Wilson Recreation Complex and Demon Hills Golf Course. Near race time, fans will not be permitted to drive inside the complex since the race course crosses the road very near the front gate. Nearby parking at Westside Baptist Church and on the shoulder of the La. 1 Bypass is available. There is no admission charge, said Demons coach Leon Johnson.
