Coughlin, Dotson are NSU pacesetters at conference warmup

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Aly Coughlin and Mark Dotson were the top runners Monday morning for Northwestern State's cross country teams at the Southland Preconference Meet hosted by Stephen F. Austin on the same course where the league championships will be run late next month.

Dotson ran 28:34.23 over 8,000 meters to pace the NSU men. Coughlin covered a 6k women's course in 26:24.92, less than a second ahead of teammate Ali Fontenot (26:25.81).

Lawana Perkins ranked third on the NSU scorecard with her 26:50.25 time. Kirstie Jones was fourth at 28:45.01 and Sarah Emory completed the scoring with her 32:00.11 finish. The five Lady Demons scored in places 37, 38, 40, 46 and 48.

Other finishers for the Northwestern women were Consuela Lindsey (32:06.96,49th), Constance Siebles (32:46.71, 50th) and Erin Knox (32:47.98, 51st).

Following Dotson, in 34th place atop the Demons' scorecard, was Travis Plumb (29:30.63, 40th), Zach Burns (30:03.66, 46th), Alex Hebert (30:19.35, 48th), and John Broughton (30:54.56, 51st). 

Also running for the NSU men were Chris Lanier (31:15.44, 53rd) and Nathanial McReynolds (35:19.97, 58th).

The Northwestern teams run again at home next Monday afternoon in the NSU Invitational at the Demon Hills Golf Course.
