Warhawks Begin Outdoor Season with Eight Victories at Southern Miss Invitational

 Hattiesburg, Miss. - The ULM track & field squads opened the outdoor season with eight first-place finishes Saturday at the Southern Miss Invitational.

 

Senior Lakeitha Elmore led the way for the Warhawks with a pair of victories. Elmore won the women's discus throw with a best mark of 45.41 meters while also taking the top spot in the women's shot put with a mark of 13.78 meters. She also came up just short of winning her third event of the day with a  second-effort in the women's hammer throw (49.90 meters).

 

ULM also picked up first-place finishes from Jade Thomas in the 100-meter dash (14.39), Celeste Rumphs in the long jump (5.62 meters), Jerrica Thomas in the triple jump (14.72 meters) and the 4X400-meter relay team (3:53.03) on the women's side.

 

On the men's side, Josh Howard won the triple jump (14.72 meters) and Jarvis Mansfield won the 110-meter hurdles (14.94).

 

In addition, Brittni Jenkins took second place in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 58.11 seconds, while Jennifer Goss placed second in the women's javelin throw with a best mark of 35.58 meters.

 

Aleesha Mullen and Stacia Palmer finished in a three-way tie for second place in the women's high jump. Each had a best jump of 1.57 meters along with Heather Ketcham of Ashford.

 

ULM dominated the men's javelin event with four of the top six spots. Richard McKay (67.40 meters) and Kyle Kent (66.71 meters) took second and third place, respectively, while Nick Guilbeau finished fifth (50.16 meters) and Isaac Grieder took sixth (49.94 meters).

 

Derek Dark finished second in the men's shot put with a best mark of 16.35 meters, while brother Preston Dark finished fourth with a throw of 14.67 meters. Derek added a third-place finish in the men's discus throw (44.41 meters).

 

The Warhawks continue their outdoor season next weekend at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La. The event begins Friday, March 18 and ends Saturday, March 19.
