POLL: MileSplit LA Boys Performer Of The Week

JESUIT'S JA'IR BURKS ON HIS WAY TO COMPLETING THE HURDLE DOUBLE AS HE FINISHES THE 300m.

Below, you will find the athletes who have made their way onto the ballot for MileSplit LA Boys Performer Of The Week. Congratulations to all of the finalists. The winner will move on to compete for MileSplit LA Boys' Outdoor Athlete of the Year honors. This poll will close on Saturday at 9pm. 

JOSEPH ENCINAS (HAUGHTON)-- The sophomore was the runner-up in the Class 5A boys 300m hurdles with a time of 38.80. This time ranked No. 4 among all 300m hurdlers during the three-day LHSAA State Outdoor Track & Field Championships. 

JA'IR BURKS (JESUIT)--The sophomore came into the LHSAA State Outdoor Track & Field Championships with O state championships to his resume. He left with not only one, but two titles after pulling the hurdle double and winning the Class 5A 110m hurdles with a 13.62w before returning and winning the 300m hurdles (38.18). Burks becomes the first sophomore to break 14.00 barrier in the 110m hurdles. No.2 on the list is LSU All-American Sean Burrell, who ran a 14.04 during sophomore year of high school at Zachary. 

 ZION SMITH (AIRLINE)--The senior ran 13.95w in the Class 5A boys 110m hurdles and was the runner-up to Jesuit's Ja'ir Burks. Smith's time ranked No. 2 among all hurdlers throughout the three-day LHSAA State Outdoor Meet.

PATRICK GALES (BRUSLY)--The junior pulled off the sprint double in Class 4A winning both the 100m (10.56w) and the 200m (21.44w) to help Brusly win the state championship team honors. Both of Gales' times were personal records. 

KALEB BIGWOOD (HAMILTON CHRISTIAN)--The junior hit for the cycle at the LHSAA State Outdoor Meet winning a gold, silver, and bronze in the sprint events. Bigwood won the 400m for the fifth straight time this season with a time of 48.82. He also finished as the runner-up in the 200m with a personal record 21.19. Finally, he finished third in the 100m (11.00) which was also a personal record. Bigwood's 200m and 400m times ranked No. 5 among all LHSAA State Outdoor Meet sprinters in all classes. 

CATRON HARGROVE (GLEN OAKS)--The senior ran a 48.18 to the Class 3A boys' 400m with a time of 48.18. That time ranked No. 2 among 400m sprinters in all classes of the three-day LHSAA State Outdoor Meet.

KEETON JOHNSON (LEESVILLE)---Won his fourth consecutive LHSAA state championship in the Class 4A boys' 1600m (4:29.94). He also won the 800m (1:55.52) and ran a leg on the Wampus Cats' winning 4x800m relay. Johnson's 800m ranked No. 5 in all classes at the three-day LHSAA State Outdoor Meet.

MATTHEW EDWARDS (LAFAYETTE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY)--Earned his first state championship in the Class 2A boys' 1600m with a time of 4:25.19. He returned to the podium at the end of the meet by finishing third in the 3200m with a season best 9:59.58. 

NOAH MOONEY (BROTHER MARTIN)--Finished fourth in the 3200m in the Class 5A boys division. It was the No. 4 ranked time among all classes in the event.
