Mutai Selected to Compete at NCAA Cross Country Championships

 INDIANAPOLIS - Sophomore Daniel Mutai of the ULM men’s cross country team was selected on Sunday (Nov. 14) to compete in the NCAA Cross Country Championships. The championship will take place on Monday, Nov. 22; on the LaVern Gibson Championship Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. Mutai will be the first men’s cross country student-athlete from ULM ever compete in the NCAA Championships. 

Mutai, who finished 12th on Saturday (Nov. 13) at the NCAA South Central Regional, was one of 38 individuals selected to participate in the championship, in addition to the 31 teams chosen to compete. Mutai was one of five individuals chosen from the South Central Region, along with Festus Kigen of TCU, David Rooney of McNeese State, Patrick Kimeli of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Matt Johnsen of Lamar. 

Earlier this season, Mutai earned all-conference honors at the Sun Belt Championships (Oct. 30) with a seventh-place individual finish, helping the Warhawks earn a fifth-place team standing, their best-ever Sun Belt finish. 

A live webcast of the championships will be broadcast from noon to 1:30 p.m., Eastern Time, Monday, November 22, on NCAA.com; the men’s race is scheduled to begin at approximately 12:48 p.m.  In addition, highlights from the championships will be included as part of the CBS NCAA Fall Seasonal Show scheduled to air on Saturday, December 18 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Eastern time on CBS HD.
