Chelimo Takes Fourth to Lead Cross Country at LSU Invitational

 BATON ROUGE, La. – Moses Chelimo of the ULM men’s cross country team earned fourth-place individually to lead the Warhawks on Saturday morning (Sept. 25) at the LSU Invitational. The Warhawk men claimed fifth in the team competition. Denise Myers was the highest-finishing Warhawk in the women’s race, claiming 19th, as the ULM women earned seventh-place. 

Chelimo crossed the line in the men’s 8K race in 26:34.47 to earn fourth; Henry Rop of Southeastern Louisiana took first in a time of 25:40.49. Jorel Torres was second to finish for ULM, earning 23rd overall in a time of 28:33.04. Devin Caldwell was the third Warhawk finisher, taking 45th with a time of 30:46.38; Seth Hall was close behind in 47th with a time 31:06.05. Jacob Heckford finished 55th overall for ULM with a time of 32:00.97.

In the team event, the Warhawks scored 146 points to claim fifth out of 10 schools. Houston earned first-place with 47 points and host LSU was second with 53. The Warhawks bettered Northwestern State (164), Tulane (169), UL Lafayette (185), Xavier-Louisiana (212) and Jackson State (266).

On the women’s side, Myers completed the 6K course in 22:24.58 to take 19th-place. Tulane’s Julia Whitrock was first across the line in 20:53.40. Madeleine Robertson was ULM’s second finisher, earning 28th in a time of 22:48.25. Tyler Blacklock finished with a time of 23:16.76 to finish in 39th-place. Lauren Rosson was 67th with a time of 24:52.68 and Ariana Jones was 91st in 27:00.97. 

The ULM women scored 201 points to earn seventh-place out of 12 in the team competition. McNesse State was first with 38 points. The Warhawks finished ahead of Northwestern State (233), UL Lafayette (236), Southern (316), Xavier-Louisiana (323) and Jackson State (335). 

ULM will return to action on Friday, Oct. 8 when the Warhawks travel to Clinton, Miss., to compete in the Watson Ford Invitational. The women’s race is scheduled to begin 4:30 p.m., and the men’s race is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
