Asumnu\'s performance helped the Green Wave to a seventh-place finish. Host Houston won the event with 117 points while Charlotte was second with 83.50 points. UAB (77 points), Southern Miss (59) and USF (53) rounded out the top five.
\"When it comes to team championships, everybody has to contribute,\" said Tulane Head Coach Heather Van Norman. \"There were some highs and some lows at this year\'s meet. We got excellent performances out of some individuals, but others needed to step up more.\"
Asumnu, who is a native of Houston, posted a season-best time of 7.43 seconds in the 60-meter dash to defend her title from last year, while she registered a time of 24.25 seconds for second place in the 200-meter dash. Her 60-meter dash time was also a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships. The sophomore also helped Tulane\'s 4x400 relay team to eighth place in the meet.
\"Gloria was outstanding for her second time at conference,\" Van Norman said. \"She is running very well right now and she is starting to learn more about how to run races. I was very proud of her effort, she did a phenomenal job. I think today will energize her for the outdoor season.\"
Senior Angel Dooley also collected all-conference honors in three events. She finished sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.46 while taking eighth place in the 200. She joined Asumnu on the mile-relay squad as well.
\"Angel was sick and still PR\'ed in the 400 and then ran well in the 200,\" said Van Norman of her senior\'s performance. \"She really stepped up today\"
On Friday, senior Camilla Hatlen led the Green Wave as she took second place in the pentathlon and fifth in the long jump. She tallied 3,634 points in the five-event pentathlon competition which consists of the 60-meter hurdles, shot put, high jump, long jump and the 800-meter run. She collected eight points toward the Green Wave team score for the second-place effort. In addition, Hatlen earned fifth place in the long jump for four points.
\"Camilla nearly provisionally qualified in the pentathlon,\" Van Norman said. \"In the pentathlon, she won the long jump and had three PRs, and then on the same day, she scored in the open long jump. She really had a nice meet.\"
Tulane added seven points in the shot put as senior Helmi Leppanen finished fourth with a throw of 48 feet, two inches. Senior Jelena Jurlina had a distance of 44 feet, 3 ¼ inches in the shot put to earn seventh place.
