Nicholl\'s Johnson Leads Way At Southland Conference Championships

Houston, Texas- The Nicholls State women's track and field team participated in the Southland Conference Championships this weekend.

Leading the way for Nicholls was Jamie Johnson who placed 21st in the shot put with a season-best throw of 36-feet, 4-inches. Lacy Picou and Jessica Alexie also competed in the shot put, finishing 26th and 27th, respectively.

Participants in the preliminaries included Dominique Harris (200-meter dash, 29.04), Shannon Cox (200-meter dash, 29.75), Billie Potter (200-meter dash, 29.95), Naomi Quisenberry (1-mile run, 6:12.18), Nicole Triche (1-mile run, 6:39.25), Shannon Cox (800-meter run, 2:55.65), Jodi Dufrene (800-meter run, 3:08.13), Allison Zeringue (high jump), Jackie Sanders (high jump).

In the long jump, Harris finished 27th with a leap of 15-08.75. Other Lady Colonels who took part in the meet included Anastasia Jones, Kim Prestenbach and Wongani Phiri (3000-meter run, 11:27.27). Also, the distance medley relay team finished 10th with a time of 14:21.34.

Stephen F. Austin won the team championship with a score of 112.50. Nicholls did not record any points.

The Lady Colonels track and field team has now concluded their indoor season and will begin their outdoor campaign on Saturday, March 5 at Jackson State.
