Bourgeois Narrowly Misses Top Ten Finish at USATF Nationals

June 25, 2010

DES MOINES, Iowa - Former Nicholls State University javelin thrower Leslie Bourgeois finished just over two feet shy of a top-ten finish at a national meet, but the Raceland native still tied her best finish ever with an 11th place showing at the 2010 U.S. Track and Field Outdoor Championships at Drake Stadium on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday afternoon.

Bourgeois recorded a throw of just 42.46 m on her first attempt before faulting on her second. With just one attempt left, Bourgeois was 14th in a 15 member field, but the Raceland native launched a throw of 46.63 m (153 ft. 0.0 in.) to vault herself into 11th, just two feet, five inches shy of a top ten finish.

Bourgeois' 11th place finish tied her best ever finish at the USATF meet. In 2009, the Central Lafourche High School product came in 11th at the outdoor championships Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene.
