A handful of records were broken at the McNeese Indoor No. 1. It started in the girls 1600m where Parkview Baptist sophomore Lucy Cramer broke Parkway's Alison Ringle's (5:14)11-year old record with a time of 5:02. A UNIQE TOKEN...
It wasn't the first rodeo for McNeese St. University head coach Brendon Gilroy, who has hosted hundreds of high school athletes at indoor meets, outdoor meets, camps and clinics over the years, but Gilroy gave it a rodeo feel as he awarded a belt buckle to each athlete who broke a record. The girls received belt buckles which said "Cowgirl Up." The boys received belt buckles which

CLOSE BUT NO BELT BUCKLE...
Westminster Christian's Owen Melancon (4:32.76) won the 1600m with Louisiana's No. 3 time this season. He beat his nearest competition by 10 seconds, but he was just a half of a second shy of the meet record of 4:32.23 by Jacob Daigle in 2016.
REPPING THE BRAND...
While Catholic High Baton Rouge's Jack Torrance was being interviewed by MileSplit LA, mention was made of his T-shirt that he received for winning the boys shot put. Torrance immediately took his newest article of clothing off and made sure that his orange Catholic High singlet was showing. Torrance picked up his first win of the season with yet another personal record. This week, Torrance heaved the 12lb ball 56-3.
Last week, Torrance opened up with a runner-up performance at the LSU HS Classic. His throw in that meet was a six foot personal record.
Torrance is the grandson of Jack "Baby Jack" Torrance who was the world record holder in the shot put in the 1930's when he helped lead the LSU Tigers to their first National Championship in 1933.
FREQUENT FLYER MILES...
You would be hard pressed to find someone who logged more miles on I-10 this week than Scotlandville head coaches Allen Whitaker and Ursula Harris. Both attended the LTFCA Clinic in Lafayette. The clinic started on Thursday and ran into Friday morning. Both Whitaker and Harris made their way to LSU's Carl Maddox Fieldhouse on Friday where they both traded their coach hat for their parent hat. Harris watched her daughter, Makeriah Harris, compete in her first college meet--LSU Purple Tiger Invitational. Whitaker watched his son Josiah Whitaker compete for Louisiana--Lafayette.
RAISING THE BAR...
There is no hesitation when you ask Huntington junior Landon Gibbs what his goal is for this season.
"6-10.25," Gibbs said after picking up his first win of the season on Saturday with a jump of 6-4.
Clearing that height would not only give him the school record, but also the Gibbs Family high school record. Landon's father, Don Gibbs, currently holds both.
When the father competed at Huntington, he was going up against the likes of Fair Park's Hollis Conway, who went on to win Olympic medals in both the 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympic Games.
"I'm blessed to have role models who have done what I am doing," Gibbs said.
St. Louis Catholic's Ella Butler was able to pick up her first win of the season in her hometown. Butler jumped 5-2 on Saturday. That is an indoor personal record for Butler, who finished third at last year's LHSAA State Indoor Meet with a jump of 5-1.25.
