Amy Guinn wins 5000 meters at LSU

BATON ROUGE - A first place effort by Amy Guinnin the 5000 meters and second place finishes by Aisling Casey in the 1500 meters and by Sam Vidrine in the javelin highlighted McNeese State's performace in the LSU track and field meet on Saturday.

            Guinn won the 5000 meters in  l7:40.93 while Casey ran 4:55.55 in the 1500 meters.

            Vidrine posted a 216-4 toss in the javelin for his second place showing.

            Also in the javelin, Ben Chretienfinished fourth for the Cowboys at 213-9 andWiley Collins was sixth at 207-7.

            Other top 10 efforts turned in by the Cowboys were a fifth place by Ben Reynolds in the high hurdles, an eighth place byCharles Jackson and a 10th by Torian Lindsey in the 200 meters, a third by Jordan Neil and an eighth by Johnathan Koenck in the 1500 meters, a seventh place byKenneth Pierce in the 5000 meters and a sixth by Thomas Canchola in the shot put.

            Neil's 3:50.65 in the 1500 meters is the best by a Cowboy this season.  Reynolds ran 14.85 in the highs, Jackson had a 22.0 and Lindsey a 22.04 in the 200 meters, Koenck posted a 3:55.09 in the 1500, Pierce ran 15:47.54 in the 5000 meters and Canchola went 53-5 in the shot put.

            Other top 10 finishes for the Cowgirls had Ashlee Smith placing seventh in the discus, Tinette Burger finishing fifth in the 1500 meters, La'Shantena Roundsfinishing fifth in the shot put and Candice McCormick running eighth, Fionnuala Ross placing ninth and Alvy Carragher 10th in the 5000 meters.

            Burger turned in a 4:39.92 which is the top effort by a Cowgirl this season in the 1500 meters while Smith went 150-0 which is also the best effort in the discus and ranks among  the top five best ever by a Cowgirl.  Rounds posted a 46-4 1/4 mark in the shot put which is a career best and the fourth best toss in McNeese history.

            McCormick ran 18:49l.25, Ross 19:06.66 and Carragher 19:12.86 in the 5000.

            Also for the Cowboys: Jackson placed 14th in the 100 meters at 11.0, Ryan Thomason was 22nd at 11.14, Ronald Stine was 24th at 11.16 and Sam Bowerswas 30th at 11.22.

            Napoleon Robicheaux ran 17.04 for 28th place in the high hurdles and went 20-1 for 19th in the long jump.  Donovan Anderson finished 21st in the 400 meters at 50.65 and Michael Washington placed 28th at 52.36.

            Mark Fallaize was 13th in the 800 meters are 1:59.20 and Michael Dyer was 16th in a special 800 meters at 1:57.83.

            For the Cowgirls: Katarina Caraway ran 13:09.48 for 11th in the steeplechase, Ashleigh Wells ran 12.49 for 26th and Paige Lynch was 28th at 12.50 in the 100 meters and then Wells was 14th at 25.10, Lynch was 36th at 26.09 andKayla Fontenot was 43rd at 27.38 in the 200 meters.

            Also, Andrea Myers ran 15.35 for 21st in the 100 hurdles, Fontenot ran 16.03 for 31st and Alyssa Cotton ran 17.80 for 42nd.  In the 800 meters, D'Anna Lambert finished 11th at 2:23.5, Kara Slaydon was 17th at 2:26.9 and Casey was 24th at 2:31.27.

            The 4x100 relay team of Lynch, Wells, Fontenot and Myers placed 12th at 48.0.

            Laney Doucett had a career best of 127-10 for 17th place in the javelin whileLaura Kerr was 19th at 124-11 and Amanda Lejeune 20th at 124-9.

            Fontenot was 36th in the long jump at 15-8.75 and Cotton was 38th at 15-6.25, Franki Taylor was 11th with a 10-6.75 pole vault and La'Shantena Roundswas 20th at 144-8 and Amber Kelly was 27th with a 106-11 effort in the hammer.
