A Handful of Career Bests Highlight Final Day at Seminole Invitational for Track and Field

ALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Tulane track and field program competed in the final day of the Seminole Invitational at Mike Long Track on the Florida State campus. The meet was not scored on a team basis, but the Green Wave watched as many of their student-athletes posted season best, or career best, marks on the final day of competition.

"Going into the meet our staff felt like this would be a good opportunity to compete against a really good track and field program in Florida State and at a very good venue," said Tulane head coach Eric Peterson. "As a result, I think that our athletes really responded and we had a lot of really good showing at the meet. Obviously it is relative, but we did make some significant improvements in some areas and we are very pleased."

A pair of event winners highlighted the women's program, as Rebecca Coady and Olivia Kizzee each won their lone events of the afternoon. Coady posted a career-best time of 2:12.64 in the 800-meter run to claim the event for her fourth consecutive victory on the track.

Kizzee posted the winning time of 11.77 in the 100-meter dash to best the field of ten competitors and give the senior two of the top-three times in the event this season. Johanna Gretschel posted a fourth place finish in the 1,500 meter as she bested her career best mark by nearly 12-seconds with a 4:40.38 showing.

Four different Wave runners posted season best marks in the 400 meter dash, with Danielle Pensack and Candice St. Etienne each boasting career best times in the event. Kelly Curtis had a career day in the shot put with a toss of 10.57-meters - more than a foot better than her previous career mark - and Jane Ballset personal bests in the discus (30.15m) and hammer throw (31.13m) on day two.

The men's team had a handful of solid showing on the final day in Tallahassee as seven competitors set season-best marks in their respective events. Brian Lozes highlighted the day with a great showing in the 1,500 meter run to place fourth in the event. Lozes went under four minutes for the first time in his career with a 3:59.60 showing and was one of four competitors to go sub-four in the 12-man field.

Garrett Myer set a season best in the 100 meter dash, Jon Frano and Koplan Nwabuoku each set season-best times in the 400 meter dash and Brayden Kelly went 58.21 in the 400 meter hurdles to capture a season best time.

The Green Wave will are scheduled to compete at the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational next weekend, starting on Friday evening in Baton Rouge.
