KALEB BIGWOOD (SECOND FROM RIGHT) COMES THROUGH THE LINE IN A 2025 INDOOR MEET
After battling spills on the track and overcoming personal tragedy off, Hamilton Christian's Kaleb Bigwood had his coming out party in 2025. Bigwood owned the 400 meters.
After finishing fourth in his indoor season opener at the LSU High School Qualifier, Bigwood made a huge jump by blistering the track at the McNeese Indoor Complex. His 48.79 in the McNeese Indoor No. 2 meet would be the fastest indoor time in any classification in 2025.
Bigwood, who was able to finally seal the deal and capture his first state championship in the event with a time of 50.36 at the 2025 LHSAA State Indoor Championships, carried the momentum from the indoor season into the outdoor campaign--which proved to be equally successful.
After finishing No. 11 at Texas A&M's Bluebonnet High School Invitational, Bigwood went on a streak of six-straight wins in his specialty. The win streak culminated with another state championship at the LHSAA Class 1A State Track & Field Championships before he took his show on the road to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he represented Louisiana at the Great Southwest Classic where he ran a person record 47.51 to conclude his junior season.
While Bigwood put on an exhibition in the 400m in 2025, he proved to be a force in the short sprints as well. He ran 21.19 in the 200m at the LHSAA Class 1A State Championships. That time was good enough to rank No. 8 in all of Louisiana and Bigwood will be the No. 1 returner in Louisiana for that event when we reach the outdoor season.
Nationally, Bigwood is ranked No. 33 indoors in the US among returning high school boys in the 400m. That ranking puts him at No. 8 on our list of La.'s Top 11 athletes heading into the 2026 indoor season.
