ULL's Simmons, Whitfield Place in Top 50 at Chile Pepper Run

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Freshman Jake Simmons and senior Walter Whitfield finished 40th and 44th, respectively, to help the Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's cross country team to a 15th place finish here Saturday at the Chile Pepper Festival Run. The women's team finished in 29th place.

Simmons led all Cajun runners with a time of 31:15.1, while Whitfield finished with a time of 31:28.3. Justin Lemaire rounded out the top 100 Cajun runners, finishing 82nd with a time of 32:14.3. Chad Campbell finished 103rd with a time of 32:45.6, while Ryan Dupree finished 123rd and D.J. Hebert 169th.

The University of Arkansas won the men's 10k run with 33 points, including the top individual runner. Southern Methodist won the women's 6k run with 67 points.

On the women's side, Analise Zaunbrecher finished 147th, leading all Cajun runners with a time of 24:23.2. Casey Brown, Jennifer Gautreaux and Leah Leger followed, finishing 165th, 166th and 169th, respectively.

Jasmine Collins and Suzanne Boudreaux rounded out the Cajun runners. Collins finished 170th, while Boudreaux finished 183rd.

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's and women's cross country teams will return to Arkansas to compete in the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Little Rock on Oct. 30
