OKLAHOMA CITY -- Trecey Rew added nearly a foot to her school record while winning the women's shot put Saturday, leading Northwestern State to its best team finish in eight years and the top finish by a Louisiana team, fifth, in the 12-team standings of the 2010 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Rew, a junior, won her second SLC Indoor shot put title after a redshirt season due to a fractured foot in 2009. She threw 52-2 1/2, wiping out the school record of 51-5 she set earlier this season, and won by almost four feet. Her victory contributed 10 points to the 46 1/2 total for the Lady Demons, who edged Texas State (46 points) for fifth in the overall team standings. Stephen F. Austin won with 151, followed by Texas-Arlington (122), Texas-San Antonio (105), Sam Houston State (59), NSU, Texas State, McNeese State (37), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (30), Lamar (23), Nicholls (20), Southeastern Louisiana (15 1/2) and Central Arkansas (8). The other top scoring Saturday for the NSU women came from senior Anna Forest, who took second to contribute eight points in the 60 meter dash with a season-best 7.59 time, edged by Jasmine Walls of UTA (7.56). The Northwestern men got two runner-up finishes, by Michael Green in the 400 (48.28) and with Green anchoring the 4x400 relay team (3:16.02). Overall, the Demons finished ninth with 30 points, with UTSA winning the men's division at 120. SFA was second (99 1/2), followed by Sam Houston (90), UTA (82), SLU (82), Lamar (61), McNeese (59), Texas State (31), NSU, Central Arkansas (10 1/2) and TAMCC (2). The fifth-place finish for the Lady Demons was their best at the SLC Indoors since a fourth place at the 2003 Championships. Other scoring Saturday for the Northwestern women came in the 4x400 meter relay (Constance Seibles, Carmen Wallace, Jazmen Williams and Andrea Warren, 3:56.89) and by Warren in the 800 (fifth, 2:17.26), Jessica Tuck in the 200 (eighth, 25.59) and Chantel Bratton in the shot put (eighth, 43-8 1/2). The Demons picked up a sixth from Justin Walker in the 200 (22.07) and an eighth-place finish from him in the 60 (6.91). Wayne Douglas gave NSU a sixth place in the triple jump with a 48-5 1/4 leap, while Morgan Redmon took sixth in the shot put (48-11 3/4).
