Winning gold medals is becoming old hat for North DeSoto's Javonte Taylor, who picked up two more on Thursday at Mansfield's Wolverine Invitational. Taylor won the triple jump (46-7) and high jump (6-6). For good measure, he finished second in the long jump with an effort of 22-4.5.
On the girls' side, freshman Katelyn Allen won the first two races in high school. First, winning the 1600m with a 5:52.20 and then returning at the end of the meet to win the 3200m with a time of 12:51.27.
Both Griffins led North DeSoto to a sweep.
The boys' team scored 97 points and edged out an Airline Viking team, who scored 94 points. It was an even tighter team race in the girls' division. The Lady Griffins scored 93.5 points and beat the Lady Vikings by 2.5 points.
While Taylor and Allen may have led their team in the points category, it was team effort as several other Griffins turned in impressive performances.
Thrower Yazmin Furgerson scored 16 points by finishing second in the shot put (33-9) and discus (111-1). Sprinter Taylor Clark scored 12 points by finishing second in the 100m (12.37) and fourth in the 200m (26.30).
Braylen Delton and Aidan Davis were two other Griffins who were in the meet's Top 10 scorers on the boys side. Delton won the 100m (10.95) and finished second in the 200m (22.57) to C.E. Byrd Kristian Roberson (22.38).
Davis finished second in the 100m (11.09) and third in the 200m (22.60).
