BYRD'S JOHN FERGUSON (27) COMPETES IN THE 3200m AT SATURDAY'S LSU HS QUALIFIER
C.E. Byrd sophomore John Ferguson had a big day on Saturday at the LSU HS Qualifier. For starters, the Yellow Jacket broke 5:00 in the 1600m for the first time in his career with a time of 4:57. Then, Ferguson broke 11:00 in the 3200m. His time of 10:51 is almost half a minute than his best time outdoors in 2024.
He is Louisiana's Most Improved Sophomore in the distance events.
"John has approached this season with quite the determination," C.E. Byrd head coach Juan Plaza said. "He is willing to do the work and he is starting to reap the benefits. I'm super proud of his effort so far this year."
The only other sophomore distance runner to make the Most Improved list on both the 1600m and 3200m is Catholic High Baton Rouge's Jacob Sruk. Sruk has improved his 3200m time 10 seconds from last year's outdoor season. In the 1600m, Sruk has posted a 4:55--one second faster than his outdoor best in 2024.
