West Monroe Rebels Sweep Port City Glass Panther Relays!

  CHARLOTTE SWITZER COMPETES IN THE LONG JUMP AT LAST WEEK'S VAN LEIGH RELAYS

The West Monroe Rebels swept the Sterlington's Port City Glass Panther Glass Relays. The boys' team scored 132 points in the 10-team field. OCS was second with 114. The Lady Rebels scored 135 points, 30 more than host Sterlington. Neville was third in both the girls and the boys divisions.

West Monroe picked up 18 points in the 800m where Tytan Johnson and Landon Spears went No. 1 and No. 2. Johnson won with a personal record 2:00.08. Spears, who is returning from a injury finished second with a 2:07.87. 

Johnson also ran a leg on West Monroe's winning 4x400m relay. The Rebels won with a 3:34.66.

"We have a very young group of boys and girls in our track program," West Monroe head coach Matt Walker said. "They are learning to compete at a higher level and are working tremendously hard each and every day at practice."

The Rebels picked up 16 points in both the 3200m and javelin, finishing first and third in both events. Hayden Jamison (10:42.85) won the 3200m and freshman Jaxon Talley, who broke the school record in the javelin last week on the first throw of his career at the Van Leigh Relays, bettered his own school record with a throw of 191-0.

Grayson Deutscher (11:19.89) finished third in the 3200m and Colton Brasher (149-0) finished third in the javelin.

For the second consecutive week, Ouachita Christian's Tate Hamby was the high point man. Hamby scored 38 points by earning three gold medals and picking up one silver. He won both the 110m hurdles (15.27) and the 300m hurdles (40.85). He also won the long jump (22-6). Hamby (5-10) finished second in the high jump to West Monroe's Deshun Thompson (6-0). 

In the girls' division, it was Charlotte Switzer who led the Rebels to the team title as she scored 32.5 points with three individual golds and ran a leg on West Monroe's winning 4x400m relay team, which won with a time of 4:19.58.

Switzer won the long jump (16-8), high jump (5-5), and 400m (1:00.64). 

Other notable performances for the Lady Rebels included Gabriella Glover and De'siree Boyett, who both scored 18 points. 

Glover finished second in both the 100m (12.72) and 200m (25.99) and also ran a leg on the West Monroe 4x100m which finished second with a time of 52.50. 

Boyett won the 3200m (12.49.52) and finished third in the 1600m (6:05.83). Boyett also ran a leg on West Monroe's runner-up 4x800m (11:29).
