SCOTLANDVILLE'S FERZELL SHEPARD COMPETES IN THE LONG JUMP AT LSU HS CLASSIC
With the first MileSplit LA Boys Performer of the Week under our belt, it's time to turn to week No. 2 and find out who will join Parkway's Brennan Robin on the ballot for MileSplit LA Boys Indoor Athlete of the Year. We have seven athletes who have made the ballot this week. Congratulations to all of the finalists. The poll will close on Saturday at 9pm.
Glen Oaks' Na'ryan Delone - Defeated a strong field in the boys 400m at the McNeese Indoor No. 1 Meet which included the LHSAA Class 5A defending champion (Scotlandville's Ferzell Shepard) and hometown favorite (Barbe's Daryl Washington). How strong was the field? The top seven times were under the old meet record of 51.59 set by Carver's Derrick Price in 2017. Delone's time of 49.86 puts him in Louisiana's sub 50 club. The only other member is John Curtis' King Taylor. Delone finished just off the podium at the 2023 LHSAA Class 3A State Meet with a time of 48.62. However, he did make the podium in the 100m where he finished third with a wind aided time of 10.63
LCA's Talan Sievers - Sievers record the fast three mile time of any freshman during the cross country season. He also showed a tremendous amount of grit in capturing his first state championship at the LHSAA State Cross Country Championships in Natchitoches. After some time off, he is starting the regain some of the momentum from an incredible Fall. He won the 3200m at the McNeese Indoor No. 1 Meet with a time of 10:16. It's the first indoor win of his career. He aslo finished sixth in the 1600m with a time of 4:43.83.
Scotlandville's Ferzell Shepard- The Scotlandville junior won the long jump by over a foot with his effort of 22-7, just missing the record. He did break the meet record in the 400m, but finished fifth with a time of 51.12. Ferzell is the defending LHSAA Class 5A Outdoor State Champion in the event.
Highland Baptist's Tyler Blissett - Opened up his indoor season at the Arkansas HS Invitational with a mile time of 4:31.78. He finished No. 23. It was the second highest finish among Louisiana runners. Blissett is coming off a cross country season which saw his successfully defend his LHSAA D5 State Cross Country Championship.
Barbe's Darryl Washington - Washington won the 55m at the McNeese Indoor No. 1 Meet with a time of 6.74. He also finished second in the 400m with a time of 50.34. That time ranks No. 3 in Louisiana.
ARCA Finn Galyean - The ARCA senior won the 55m hurdles with a time of 7.87. He also finished fifth in the 55m at the McNeese Indoor No. 1 Meet with a time of 6.91.
David Thibodaux's Jackson Jarrett - Travelled up to Virginia for the VA Showcase and was able to run a 1600m meter time which is the best in the state-4:28.55-on the banked track of the Virginia Beach Sports Center. Jarrett is coming off a cross country season which saw him capture his first state title at the LHSAA DII State Cross Country Championships.
